Well, since Chu got the ball rolling… I might as well continue.
Unlike Chu, my genre of music is actually quite wide. From Classic Rock to Alternative to some Christian bands and on. I even like some hip-hop. Smooth Jazz will relax me during a stressful day at work.
So here’s the Top 10 favorite songs from 2004 (My favorites, not from 2004).
10. Flood – Jars of Clay’s original CD and single. Still one of the better acoustic rock bands around.
9. Disarm – Smashing Pumpkins. Sure they were overplayed in the 90s, but hey, it was still good music and still one of my favorites!
8. The Unforgiven II – Metallica is still one of the best non-metal metal bands around. I love this song because it followed one of their other great ballads, The Unforgiven.
7. The Wire – Third Day. If you’ve never heard Third Day, don’t discount them based on their spiritual thrust. They are truly one of the best Southern Rock influenced bands of all time. Their new CD, The Wire, continues a great run.
6. What Would You Say? – Dave Matthews Band has several entries simply because… they are one of my favorite bands. This is an old original, but always gets my feet tapping.
5. Faithfully – No band in history has ever captured the soul of a love song like Journey did with this song. Makes you want to close your eyes and sway and think about all the good things about love. Sure it’s hard, even in the case of these guys who were a travellin’ band always on the road. But love brings you home.
4. My Immortal – Evanessence. Haunting lyrics, haunting melodies. Can’t help but love ‘em.
3. Two Step – Dave Matthews Live…. Anytime they play this song live it’s an super long song filled with plenty of killer musical licks and jamming. The Central Park Concert version is probably my favorite, particularly with the Sinatra-esque “New York, New York” moment.
2. I Don’t Want to Be – Gavin Degraw’s single that became the theme to that show…you know, the One Tree Hill one… Cool song despite that.
1. Sometimes You Can’t Do It Alone – U2, another one of my favorite all time bands, released this on their new “How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb” CD. It was a great song before I knew the history. Now that I know it was written to Bono’s dad who was diagnosed with terminal cancaer and subsequently passed away, it holds even more juice.
