You may have noticed that my thoughts on this blog have become a little more introspective and a little less opinion pieces. Stick around long enough and I may start going back to the old form. But I believe there’s a time and a season for everything and this season has been one of self-examination – where I’ve come from – where I’m going – what I hope to become – what lessons I hope I’ve learned.
Some of my inward dealings are simply too private to elaborate on publically and some are okay to deal with publically.
Music. Music is very much my life. I play 4 different instruments (some would say 2 with variations, but I digress). My iTunes collection is approaching 1500 songs which I have burnt to several DVDs and have taken to work so I can listen there too. In my long commutes, I have plenty of time to listen to music and listen to the lyrics and consider the meaning.
The one I’ve been paying close attention to lately is “100 Years” by Five for Fighting:
I’m 15 for a moment
Caught in between 10 and 20
And I’m just dreaming
Counting the ways to where you areI’m 22 for a moment
She feels better than ever
And we’re on fire
Making our way back from Mars15… there’s still time for you
Time to buy and time to lose
15, there’s never a wish better than this
When you only got 100 years to liveI’m 33 for a moment
Still the man, but you see I’m a they
A kid on the way
A family on my mindI’m 45 for a moment
The sea is high
And I’m heading into a crisis
Chasing the years of my life15… there’s still time for you
Time to buy, Time to lose yourself
Within a morning star
15… I’m all right with you
15, there’s never a wish better than this
When you only got 100 years to liveHalf time goes by
Suddenly you’re wise
Another blink of an eye
67 is gone
The sun is getting high
We’re moving on…I’m 99 for a moment
Dying for just another moment
And I’m just dreaming
Counting the ways to where you are15… there’s still time for you
22… I feel her too
33… you’re on your way
Every day’s a new day…
15… there’s still time for you
Time to buy and time to choose
Hey 15, there’s never a wish better than this
When you only got 100 years to live
Consider it.

1500 MP3z….I should open up a port and give you access to my collection… HeH
I can understand your love for music, I can play 2 instruments, and neither of them well (Piano and Guitar). I grew up next to a piano so I of course was drawn to dabble in it, and that lead me to my first love, Fender, which lead to Jackson, which lead to Seagull, which lead to Ibanez….
Someday Parker will wake up and start making lefty guitars, but until then I will suffer with what I have ;)
Self examination is great so long as you don’t get too weighed down with yourself and start blaming everything on your faults.
It gets pretty easy sometimes to be hard on yourself instead of letting the water slide off your back and push forward, but I digress….

Self examination? You go dude! Just like David commented self examination is great as long as you learn the lesson, grow from it and not sit around talking about what you could have done.
But I disagree with the part where you say you ride and listen to music. You ride, get stuck in traffic and call me. The I sing my rendition of “Moon River” :-)
Look brother I applaud you for those steps you are taking. It is a sign of maturity and growth.
Each one, Teach one

David, that’s just music I’ve purchased or otherwise “obtained” in digital format. Truth be told, I have 350 CDs that if I took the time to rip to MP3 would likely require a separate 160GB hard drive.
Sean, you never sang “Moon River”. You did sing “I Feel like a Woman” though…

See Aaron, now yer talking! Time to put that P3 to use as an MP3 Jukebox, stop wasting time! 350 cds will take some time, but once it’s loaded LOOK OUT! :) I don’t have that many cd’s I have about 125 right now, but I admit I am a rat from the old Napster days and I am sitting on a quiet pile of MP3z.
I am so weak…. ;)

Actually I was imitating you after you would see Patty. BTW she asked about you.

It’s because you need to get back to playing music like you did a couple of years ago. You may not know the people or the place right now, but it will come.
Bank on it.

I am quite passionate about music, myself. However, I have attempted both the flute and piano with horrendous results. I had troube with my i-pod and i-tunes and I was distraught. Regarding your more introspective postings, I have a blog and it’s a pretty light in nature. Mostly because I don’t provide much personal content and commentary. Still working on that. Kudos for a great blog :]
