Thank you to everyone who has offered helpful feedback on the new theme, either here on this blog, or through email. It has been very helpful and welcome. Even Sean, who had the presence of mine to call my cell to tell me that (and I quote):
Like, dude… I hate this new theme. It’s all broken and shit
Well, my friend, that was because the workflow of a theme is to get it right in Firefox before Internet Exploder. :) Now that most of the CSS issues have been resolved, I felt comfortable enough rolling it out as [now] the [only] theme for Technosailor.
Some have complained of the narrowness of the theme. I think this will grow on people and I’m chalking it up to the human-standard hate of change. However, I will always look to tweak user experience and I think this theme will allow some break out options now.
For instance, the blogroll and archives, which took up so much precious real estate in the old renditions, have been moved to separate pages now. I’m not sure if I’m going to keep recent comments, but I think it keeps people in touch with some of the older threads a little easier. The verdict is still out on that one. One of the ideas I am looking to bring in to play is Flickr image posting (brings a more personal touch). I’d also like to bring some Feedster/Technorati integration into the posts. Other changes will be transparent to the reader including some wp-admin plugins I have in the works that will pertain to guest bloggers, etc.
So keep any other feedback you have coming. The theme is a derivative of Teodorescu Razvan’s Falling Dreams Theme, significantly modified for my own uses.
Known issues:
- Blogroll is kind of funky, showing alot more info than necessary
- Content columns on pages don’t seem to like to expand with the content, causing runover
- line height is too narrow
- Font size switcher

You quote me…The correct statement was this:
“Dude I like the old theme”. “This one sucks like you do.”
I guess it will have to grow on those of us who visit your site but if it makes you happy then that’s cool with me.
Doesn’t change the fact that you still suck. Hope you are feeling better.
No…I think I got the quote right the first time. ;)

The narrowness alone doesn’t really bother me, but the line-height does. Try increasing it for easier reading :)
like, that, Vinnie?
Yep, I like. Narrowness is fine. Line-height’s better than earlier today.
Well done mate!

Actually that is better for some odd reason. So you do listen.
I made the line-height 1.75 instead of 1.5 like I had after the mod I made for Vinnie. White space works wonders, eh?

looks like I’ll only be reading via RSS from now on. Dude, the theme really blows.

After talking to Jerald to find out why the site “blows”… (don’t you love generic feedback like that? Like the phone call I recieved one time saying “My computer won’t work”…. Okay, and?) the biggest gripes were lack of theme options and font size.
For the font size, I’m hoping to just do a quickie little javascript doohickey that will enlarge the font. Maybe this weekend. That was already planned. As for the lack of theme options, there’s been a few people to complain about that. My answer to that is that, while it is nice to have options, most sites do not and what about them? Following in that train of thought, it’s much more difficult to maintain multiple themes simultaneously. Not all themes have the same HTML or CSS structure. Some themes, such as the current one, use customized themes for pages that might not be there in all themes, because…well, they are custom. From an administrative point of view, that double, triples and maybe quadruples the difficulty in maintaining consistency in the blog.
So that said, I don’t think I will be doing multiple themes anytime soon. Sorry. :)
