On Tony "I Don't Support the President, but I actually do" Snow

I like Tony Snow so the title of this entry is unfairly snarky. I’d like to send out my congratulations to the Administration on picking someone who makes sense. No really. He makes sense. Not for the President. When he talks… it makes sense.

I admit to having somewhat more of a favorable view of Fox News than the other media outlets. Maybe I just haven’t overcome years of being inundated by Wolf Blitzer and though I dislike O’Reilly, and I really like Keith Olbermann, I still come back to Fox News.

(Okay, I admit that it’s because Fox News is right next to Comedy Central on the cable dial, so you know, I can get my dose of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert in between Brit Hume and Shepard Smith.)

So now that I’m back from that tangent, Tony Snow was probably the most brilliant move that the White House has made to date. Here’s a man who is well respected by the press and the American people. If the President wants anyone speaking on his behalf, it’s Tony Snow.

Plus, I would pay to see Helen Thomas try to get Tony’s goad. A lot of the liberal press is going to try to take Tony to task for criticizing the President in earlier commentator roles and now trying to be his spokesman, but I think what you have here is a true conservative trying to keep the President conservative (He was negotiating for more powere before accepting!) and trying to help position republicans for 2008.

It’s going to take a lot more than Tony Snow to save a sinking ship.

  2. Aaron says:

That’s the thing. He doesn’t need to save a sinking ship. He only needs to spin things enough to make the country feel good about having a Republican in office in 2008.

Bush is screwed. The Snow appointment looks ahead.

Since the 9/11 fog of fear is finally clearing, everyone has fractured and splintered off over so many different issues. That’s been the problem for Democrats in recent years, but now it’s hitting Republicans too. Regardless of how Tony Snow will spin things for the White House, it’s going to be very interesting watching candidates position themselves in such a volitile political climate.

The last thing we need is Shrillary ($1 to Neal Boortz) or his spouse back in office. (Bill obviously can’t run again)
